Waterman Lake...A Source Of Power, Life, And Recreation.
Waterman Lake is a man-made
reservoir that was created to provide a controllable source of hydropower to fuel the
family's mill operation. The reservoir actually entails a complete watershed system
incorporating the main lake, two secondary bodies of water, a dam house, a spillway, a
stream, and a pond that feeds directly into the mill head raceway. It is
spring and stream fed, and has served to also provided an important resource for
agricultural irrigation and a recreation over the decades.
These photos illustrate the proximity of a portion of the farm to Waterman's Reservoir. Also note the encroachment of urban development as illustrated in the new homes now standing in one of the original apple orchards directly across the street.

Pineledge Cove sets an idyllic scene on the West edge of the Captain Elisha Steere Farm. The woodland is "Aunt Catharine's Wood Lot", the family's venerable resource for native timber and lumber used on the farm through the generations.
