Branch Submission:

Once you have completed your Family Branch, there are several ways that you can forward a copy to the Project Coordinator.

First, locate on your computer hard drive the Legacy file containing the completed branch that you wish to submit.  When using Windows Explorer, you will notice several files associated with each Legacy branch.  You may submit all of these related files, but the one that must absolutely be submitted is the main application file with a name of 'BranchXXX' or 'BranchXXX.fdb'.  This will be relatively easy as the required file is the largest.  In the following graphic, the project participant will be submitting the folder named 'Branch411.fdb'.

Once you have isolated your branch, you may copy it to an appropriate medium (floppy, CD, or 100Mb. Zip Disk) and email the Project Coordinator for the mailing address to send the data.  In the example above, the branch is too large to fit on a traditional floppy disk, but may fit with the use of a compression utility.  WinZip compression is acceptable for branches submitted using any of the methods discussed.

However, there is a much more convenient and time efficient capability now available to submit your family branch.  Simply click on the hyperlink located at the bottom of this page and transmit your file using File Transfer Protocol (FTP).  To accomplish this:

1.  A window of your web browser should automatically launch, providing a security sign-on applet. When prompted, enter the User ID and password that was provided to you as part of your project registration process.
2.  Open Windows Explorer, and locate the Legacy file, as described above.  Once found, minimize both the browser and the Explorer windows so that you can see both on your monitor desktop.
3.  Select the Legacy file in the Explorer window and drag it across to "drop it" into the browser window.  You will see a box representing the data transfer.  When this box indicates that the transfer is complete, your branch has been submitted.
4.  Upon submitting your branch via FTP, please send an email notifying the Project Coordinator.

A note for the advanced participant...a FTP client, such as WS_FTP, may be configured to conducted the described FTP transfer.

Please feel free to review steps 4 - 6 of the Project Methodology for a more detailed explanation of branch submission.
