Introduction:

It was determined that a standard software package should be used in computerizing the genealogy to streamline the data integration and archiving process.  A list of considerations was compiled and extensive research was conducted regarding the majority of genealogical software currently commercially available.  Analysis included, but was not limited to, the following criteria:
               * Product availability
               * Product cost affordability
               * Corporate support and upgradeability
               * Ease of use (but yet powerful as to not require product replacement due to the Association or the
                  participants outgrowing the software's capabilities)
               * Wide range of product support including Windows95, 98, NT, and 2000
               * Proven capability to import the data from the original core software package (Family Gathering) first
                  used by the Association in 1997 that is no longer produced
               * A strong support of GEDCOM standards for those project participants who may be currently using
                  other genealogical products
               * Open web publishing capabilities

A number of software packages were then acquired, installed, and tested to meet the requirements as defined by the above criteria.  The software that best met the requirements and will be used for the computerization project is Legacy Family Tree.

About the company that developed Legacy:

Legacy was developed by Millennia Corporation, a software development company since 1984. Until 1997, the company was known as Expressware and developed several DOS-based software applications such as File Express.  Development on Legacy Family Tree began in 1997 and version 2.0 was released in 1998.  Legacy 3.0 was released in March of 2000 and the Deluxe version in December of that same year. A version 4.0 has since been released
